Regeneration project gets go-ahead

The redevelopment of the East Street area of Farnham in Surrey recently got the go-ahead from Waverly borough council.

It is understood that the developers Crest Nicholson intend on constructing a mixed-use redevelopment including commercial property as well as over 200 homes.

However, getting the green light to start work has been a lengthy process spanning around ten years as concerns have been raised over the loss of historic features, public open spaces and Farnham' s theatre and bowls club.

Futhermore, it is thought the difficulties arising out of the credit crunch may delay the regeneration process and it may not be completed until 2013.

Despite this, the hold-up could make the scheme more viable as it will give time for the commercial property market to recover and house prices to rise.

At the end of last week, it was announced that a £175 million commercial property scheme in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire has got the go-ahead to begin construction work.
