New chairman for Blackpool regeneration company

New chairman for ReBlackpool.

Sir Howard Bernstein has been appointed chairman of the ReBlackpool regeneration company, replacing Sir Peter Hall who stepped down from the position earlier this year.

The appointment means Sir Howard, who is also chief executive of Manchester City Council, will step down from the board of the Olympic Delivery.

He will oversee regeneration projects in Blackpool, which include a £78 million investment in sea defences and £100 million for local transport.

"Blackpool is a regional priority and it is a privilege to be part of the team that will drive forward ambitious plans for this strategically important north-west town," Sir Howard said.

"The regeneration programme is challenging by any standards but I am happy to share my experiences gained through my work on equally ambitious projects in Manchester."

He added that a core objective is to maximise the area's contribution to the region's economy.

Key projects in the regeneration include civic and cultural quarter the Talbot Gateway, Hounds Hill shopping centre and public space St John's Precinct.ADNFCR-1203-ID-18673449-ADNFCR
