Work begins on Midlands Arts Centre

Construction work on a £12.5 million redevelopment project in Birmingham is under way.
Building.co.uk reports that a new building designed by Chetwoods and Branson Coates is being built as part of the city's Midlands Arts Centre.
The work being carried out by Thomas Vale Construction will include the building of a new three-storey building and the refurbishment of existing areas.
According to the news provider, the new building, which is expected to be open in September next year, will connect the centre's Studio Theatre, Hexagon Theatre and other arts studios.
The centre first opened in 1964 as the Midlands Arts Centre for Children and Young People.
It was founded by Mollie Randle and John English when the local council granted them 8.6 acres of land in 1962 to create the institution.
Some 500,000 people visit the centre each year, while it also offers 120 arts structured courses each week.
