University 'opens eco-housing project'

An "eco-resident" scheme has been developed at the University of Kent's Woolf College in Canterbury that will house over 500 students.
The development, which was completed by Mansell Construction Services, also includes a 500-seat lecture theatre.
Property Week reports that the accommodation comprises of study bedrooms arranged in flats of six to eight rooms, plus enhanced bedrooms, self-contained studios and disabled access rooms.
Its eco credentials come in the form of energy-efficient systems installed on the inside of the building, while timber construction frames were manufactured offsite in order to minimise waste.
Professor Julia Goodfellow, vice-chancellor at the University of Kent, told the news provider: "The new accommodation is an important part of our new approach to postgraduate teaching and research."
Meanwhile, Igloo Regeneration announced that it has completed its £60 million Bermondsey Square regeneration scheme in Southwark.
