Travelodge invests £20m in new hotels

Travelodge has bought nine new hotel development sites for £28.3 million as part of a drive to add 4,000 new rooms to its portfolio by the end of the year.
The new developments will create 568 rooms for the budget hotel chain, representing 12.5 per cent of its annual room target.
Hotels are to be constructed in Cheshire, Poole, Newport, Felixstowe, Devizes in Wiltshire, St Helens in Merseyside, Fort William, Clacton and Ashbourne and will be open within the next 18 months.
Travelodges property director, Paul Harvey, said: "We are investing millions of pounds to enhance the UK tourism offer and with more quality, value accommodation available to domestic tourists we hope to make hotels available to more people than ever before."
The company intends to treble the size of its estate by 2020, targeting a ten per cent share of the UK hotel market.
In 2008 Travelodge will open 44 new hotels in locations including Cardiff, Glasgow, London Euston and Carlisle.
