Stations to offer office space

Office workers could soon be stationed in virtual spaces

The growing demand for office space may see more flexible options such as virtual offices created in stations, according to one expert.

Commercial property investors may be interested to know that Hamish Edwards of accounting systems firm Xero, has suggested that virtual offices may soon be available in a variety of places, including stations, Real Business reports.

According to Mr Edwards, congestion and concerns over the environment could mean that people wish to work more flexibly from home or while travelling.

"I think you might start to see a lot more railway stations put in meeting rooms where business people can come together," he remarked.

However, despite such shifts in demand and current financial conditions, one expert recently suggested that there could be opportunities for commercial property investors within the office sector.

Oliver Gilmartin, economist at the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, said that if conditions begin to "settle down", yields will become more "attractive".
