Southend United granted planning permission for new stadium

Stadium: Vision for Fossetts Farm

Southend United Football Club has been given the go-ahead to build a new stadium at Fossetts Farm.

The 22,000 all-seater will be an integral part of a mixed used development on the site, which will include a hotel, 16,400 square feet of retail space and 67 residential units.

Mary Power, planning director with Savills, which advised the football club, revealed that the new stadium would be of benefit to both Southend United and the local economy.

"The new club will stimulate economic regeneration within Southend, and enhance its profile as a key destination within the Thames Gateway," she said.

The club is expected to leave existing home Roots Hall for the Fossetts Farm development when it is completed at the start of the 2010/11 season.

Meanwhile, plans for a £50 million retail park in Beverly has been given the go-ahead despite the pleas of a number of local businesses.

The plans scraped through, with eight councillors in favour and seven against the proposals.ADNFCR-1203-ID-18501235-ADNFCR
