Shopping centre extension given go-ahead

Shoppers will be able to enjoy a bigger retail centre

Ambitious plans to extend the Ridings Shopping Centre have been given the go-ahead by Wakefield Metropolitan District Council.

The proposals for Moorfield Group-owned property include 100,000 square feet of extra commercial retail space and a 12,000 square foot office for Johnstone Press, Property Week reports.

Mark Holmes, the director of the Moorfield Group, revealed that the extension could help attract a raft of new business to the centre.

He told the publication: "We anticipate that the proposed extension, as well as the current enhancement works, will not only improve the shopping experience for our regular visitors, but also attract new retailers and shoppers to the Ridings."

A number of retailers, including Bank Fashion, T Mobile and Sports Direct, have already expressed an interest in occupying the extra space.

Meanwhile, five retailers have agreed to take up space at Cambridge's new Grand Arcade retail scheme.

LK Bennet, Fraser Hart, Swarovski, Warehouse and Phase Eight will all take residence at the new shopping centre.ADNFCR-1203-ID-18495135-ADNFCR
