Heritage critical of Smithfield market proposals

English Heritage has criticised Thornfield Properties' ambitious plans to regenerate Smithfield market.
The developers intend to replace the Victorian trade area with almost 500,000 square feet of office and retail space, Property Week reports.
Mark Dodds, a member of the Development Planning Partnership (DPP), revealed concerns that involved parties were set to benefit from the lack of maintenance of a heritage site.
He said at a public enquiry: "Neither the City of London nor the applicants should benefit from this situation. Such an outcome would set an unfortunate and dangerous precedent in respect of the proper stewardship of heritage sites."
Recently English Heritage voiced its concerns over plans for a mixed use development in west London.
The group claimed that Glenkerrin's plans for Ealing should be rejected by the council due to its location and the effect that it could have on the area.
