Healey 'wants proof of empty rates difficulties'

John Healey is calling on the property industry to show him proof of the harm caused by empty rates charges, it has been reported.
The minister for communities and local government says he wants to see evidence before there will be any reassessment of the rules.
Mr Healey has discussed the issue with the British Property Federation (BPF) and has instructed the Valuation Office Agency to carry out a review of the effects of empty rates, Property Week reports.
The commercial property industry must show him clear evidence of the effect of empty rates as no changes would be made without it, he comments.
According to the news provider the BPF is reiterating its call to the industry to compile documentation.
Earlier this month the British Retail Consortium warned that there is worse to come for retailers as the 2010 revaluation would lead to increases in rates bills.
It predicted a 16 per cent rise in charges.
