Cabe critical of Ealing tower plans

Glenkerrin plans criticised

The Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (Cabe) has claimed that the Ealing Broadway Leaf tower proposals are "not of the standard that the town deserves".

The scheme, which is being proposed by Glenkerrin, will include a revamp of Ealing Broadway Tube station, an extra 225,000 square feet of retail space, a reworking of the town square and the tower itself, Property Week reports.

But Cabe is highly critical of the proposals, claiming that they were not up to the required standards.

"The weaknesses of this master plan, exposed by the new tower, means that this proposal should not be granted planning approval," the commission said.

"Ealing is a borough under significant development pressure and Cabe is concerned about an apparent lack of plan in place for transformation. Cabe has advised the council to develop a tall buildings policy that sets the agenda for developments of this scale," it added.

Meanwhile, Urban Splash has revealed its plans for an £100 million redevelopment of Liverpool's Great George Street.

The scheme will add 80,000 square feet of office and retail space, and more than 700 residential properties to the area.ADNFCR-1203-ID-18469140-ADNFCR
