Brown promises £9 billion for Thames Gateway regeneration

Prime minister Gordon Brown has promised to put £9 billion towards the regeneration of the Thames Gateway.
The redevelopment is likely to see at least 11.8 million square feet of commercial property, including office, industrial and retail space, built in the region.
And Brown revealed that the government investment will also help improve transport and education in the area.
He said: "It is about the wholesale regeneration of the area but it is also about more than regeneration."
"It is a historic endeavour to bring so many people of determination and initiative together to create one of the most vibrant and successful areas in the world."
"A place for people to work, to live, and to bring up a family," he added
Meanwhile, rates for commercial property in Leeds will continue to remain high due to a shortage of grade A property in the city, Savills have claimed.
