Bridlington to be given £2m in regeneration funds

The seaside resort has received funds

Efforts to regenerate a Yorkshire coastal town have been given a £2 million funding boost.

The majority of the funds for the Bridlington Renaissance scheme, which aim to increase business confidence in the town, will come from regional development agency Yorkshire Forward, Bridlington Free Press reports.

A further £1 million of investment has been pledged by East Riding of Yorkshire council.

John Lister, head of the town's regeneration project, said: "It confirms the continuation of the level of funding we have already had and the support for Bridlington from Yorkshire Forward for the next four years."

The funds will also be used for consultancy and legal costs regarding regeneration in the town, including discussions between the council and Bridlington Harbour Commissioners about the capacity of a marina.

So far more than £6 million has been spent on a regeneration study, town-centre redevelopment and preparation of an area action plan, the news provider reports.

In related news, the government has awarded grants of up to £4 million to Blackpool, Dover and Torbay to boost regeneration through cultural projects.

Sea Change, a funding scheme which aims to initiate economic regeneration in coastal areas through investment in culture and heritage, has awarded its first set of funds to the seaside towns.
