BPF to research impact of tall buildings

The impact of tall buildings is to be reviewed

Plans for research into the economic and environmental impacts of tall buildings have been announced by the British Property Federation (BPF).

The research is to be undertaken in light of recent controversy over tall building schemes such as the Shard London Bridge development, the organisation said.

A statement from the BPF explained that the organisation will seek to provide a "balanced debate" of both the aesthetic impact of tall structures and the extent to which they bring economic and sustainability benefits.

The organisation's chief executive Liz Peace said: "It is crucial that arguments about these issues should become more evidence based and I hope that out report – which should be available before the summer - will contribute to that process."

Last month planning permission for a residential tower that will become the tallest building in Wales was granted by Cardiff council.

The 33-storey, 400 ft high building is to be part of the Bay Pointe waterfront redevelopment, a £500 million scheme located in Cardiff’s International Sports Village, Property Week reports.
