Birmingham 'promising for commercial property investment'

Birmingham ripe for property investment

Birmingham has undergone significant growth in the last two decades, throwing up opportunities for property investors in the process, according to one expert.

The metropolis's status as England's second city is now reflected in its culture, making it more attractive to potential residents, property agent Robert Powell & Co said.

While the city's residential market has seen a slight downturn in line with the rest of the country, there could yet be growth in the commercial property sector, a spokeswoman for the company remarked.

"There are many developments, such as the new university hospital, which is going to have 5,000 new doctors in the next five years," she commented, adding: "They are building new offices - if they fill those the flat market may improve."

About one million people live in Birmingham. Over 45 per cent of the new or converted dwellings built in the area last year were located in the city centre.
