Beverly retail park plans still set to go-ahead

Plans for a multi-million retail park in Beverly has continued to attract debate despite being given the go-ahead by local councillors.
The £50 million proposals, which are part of a wider £120 million regeneration scheme, have raised concerns that it will create too much competition for retailers already in the area, the Yorkshire Post reports.
David Bird, owner of Carol Bird Interiors, a local business, revealed his disappointment with the councils decision to grant permission for the Grovehill-based plans.
"I am extremely angry and disappointed at the decision. The vote was very close at eight to seven," he told the publication.
"They may have won the battle but they have not won the war. We will fight this decision as it has now been referred to the Secretary of State. I still have confidence the decision will be overturned," Mr Bird added.
A report by planners with the local council revealed that the proposals could seize around seven per cent of trade form the regional town centre.
