Bedford regeneration to boost commercial property

Bedford: Set for redevelopment

The decision to give the go-ahead to massive regeneration plans in Bedford town centre could lead to a boost in commercial property in the town.

Bedford Council granted permission for the Riverside Square car park to be turned in leisure and retail units, as well a public square, a pedestrian bridge and almost 150 apartments.

Frank Branston, the mayor of Bedford, said: "There is no doubt that the town centre is in need of significant investment and this new mixed use scheme has the potential to act as a catalyst for such investment."

He added: "Along with the schemes for Castle Lane and the town centre west this development will breathe new life into the town creating vibrant new shopping, leisure and living opportunities."

It is hoped that the improvements may lead to a commercial property upturn similar to that experienced in Kent after its infrastructure re-development.ADNFCR-1203-ID-18347853-ADNFCR
