Balfour Beatty allay commercial property slowdown fears

Property construction firm Balfour Beatty has claimed that it has remained reasonably unaffected by the recent dip in the commercial property sector.
The firm announced its recent business results this week, which showed a 20 per cent increase in orders, and confirmed that the recent sector woes were not affecting their fortunes.
Ian Tyler, chief executive of the firm, revealed that the company was unlikely to be affected by the downturn for the foreseeable future.
"As yet we have seen no evidence of a slowdown in commercial property. If and when a downturn comes the lead time be-fore it would affect our results is three to four years," he said.
Meanwhile, according to the Confederation of British Industry, a number of existing commercial property occupiers are set to expand their property holdings in the next six months, which would provide a further boost for the sector.
